4 Wolf Basics
Who are wolves
The original ancestor to domestic dogs, wolves are highly intelligent, social and loyal animals, forming tight-knit wolf packs that live and hunt together throughout their entire lives. They are devoted to one another and really look after each other.
Wolves = Health Eco-System
Wolves bring eco-system to healthy balance. The elk numbers decrease to the levels the eco-system can sustain, resulting in revival of vegetation and streams, which in turn give life to other species.
Are wolves a threat?
Although wolves are capable of taking down large mammals, wolves tend to have a natural fear of humans. There have only been 2 cases of of wolves killing humans in the past 100 years, and both occurred in illegal garbage dumps that attract many other carnivores.
Can Ranchers Protect Their Flock from Wolves
Wolves are actually responsible for less than 0.2% of cattle losses with 94% of losses due to non-predator related causes. Many non-lethal methods are equally effective at reducing predator-related losses for ranchers.
